SALT LAKE CITY-Several Utah women's soccer players sat out the final regular season contest against Long Beach State, and the Forty-Niners took advantage of the injury depleted squad with a 1-0 victory.
The Utes surrendered a goal to LBSU's Kelli Barrett in the 24th minute. The Forty-Niner goalkeeper, Jihan Elgazzar held off a late surge by the Utes that escalated in an Amy Kofoed shot off the bar in the waning minutes.
Utah, who earned a share of the Mountain West Conference regular season championship, heads to the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 New Mexico Wed. October 3, at 2:00 p.m.
The game capped the regular season careers of Ute seniors Staci Burt, the all-time Utah scoring leader, Tonya Dansereau, Dana Bolton and Bernie Hogan. Utah finishes the season 12-6 (5-1 MWC).
