SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's soccer team defeated Weber State in a 3-0 shutout today. The Utes outshot the Wildcats 35-9 including 20-5 shots-on-goal. The win brings Utah to 7-3 and ties the Utah-Weber State series 2-2.
The Utes dominated the first half shooting 12 of 15 shots-on-goal and keeping the Wildcats to four of five. The score remained 0-0 going into the second half, when Utah hit a scoring spree shooting three goals in 15 minutes.
Midfielder Amy Kofoed scored her ninth goal of the season, her third unassisted, when she sped through the Wildcat defense on a breakaway and slammed a 15 yard shot.
Forward Shauna Gurr scored the Utes second goal on a pass from defender Megan Maxwell for a 20 yard shot.
Senior forward Staci Burt ended Utah's scoring spree with a third goal on an indirect kick by sophomore Alli Cerruti. Cerruti pounded an indirect kick that was blocked by Weber State goalkeeper Meaghan Thunell. Burt caught the ball on the deflection and tapped it in.
Goalkeeper Courtney Hills earns her third shutout of the season with five saves. Maxwell and defender Lesa Zollinger helped Hills with team saves. It is Zollinger's second team save this season.
The Utes return to action Sun., Oct. 3 at 1:00 p.m. when they take-on SMU at Ute Soccer Field.
