SALT LAKE CITY — Utah baseball dropped two in a doubleheader to complete its three-game series with UCF on Charlie Monfort Field at America First Ballpark. Utah dropped the first game 12-4 and fell 10-0 in a seven-inning nightcap.

Game 1
UCF 12, Utah 4
The Utes started game one of the day off strong jumping out to an early lead. In the top of the first, UCF was able to log one run on the board. Utah was quick to answer as Daniel Arambula hit one deep over the left center wall for two RBI to give the Utes a 2-1 lead.

With the momentum in favor of the Utes, Matt Flaharty knocked a solo shot to give Utah a 3-1 edge after two complete innings. The Utes maintained that lead as both teams went scoreless for the next three innings. It included a stretch of 10 straight batters retired by starting pitcher Payton Riske, who left in line for the win after five innings.

In the top of the sixth, UCF hit a solo shot to narrow the gap on the scoreboard but again Utah answered. Flaharty hit a double to right field for an RBI to bring the score to 4-2 after six complete.

The Knights found a spark in the top of the seventh, plating three runs to take the lead. In the top of the eighth, UCF powered up even further with seven additional runs that propelled the Knights to a 12-4 victory over Utah.

UCF 10, Utah 0 (7 innings)
UCF wasted no time getting a jump on Utah putting up four runs in the first inning, stringing together five hits ans jumping on a Utah error. The Knights added to the total in the top of the third, pushing another run across for a 5-0 visitors' lead after three complete.

In the top of the fourth UCF managed to plate five more runs to push their lead to 10. Utah struggled to find any offensive momentum and the Knights closed out the run-rule victory.

Utah will head down to Provo for a three-game rivalry series at BYU running from Thursday to Saturday, April 30-May 2.
