STILLWATER, Okla. – The University of Utah softball team closed its 2025 regular season with a 4-1 loss to the No. 23 Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Sunday afternoon in Big 12 Conference action at Cowgirl Stadium in Stillwater, Okla.
Utah ends the regular season at 13-39 and 5-19 in conference competition.
The Cowgirls grabbed the early lead, tallying one run in the first, two in the second and one more in the third to build a 4-0 advantage. That was all OSU would get against the Utah staff however.
Hailey Maestretti held the Cowgirls to just a single hit over the last 2 1/3 innings and she was helped by
Kendall Lundberg throwing out a pair of attempted base stealers.
Utah's best chance to erase their deficit came in the fifth, when a
Kendall Lundberg single and a walk to
Hailee White brought up
Shelbi Ortiz with one out. The senior outfielder then got Utah on the board by slicing an RBI double off the wall in left. The Utes loaded the bases later in the frame, but were unable to find the big hit they needed to take another bite out of the OSU lead.
In both the sixth and seventh, the Utes put runners on, but the visitors were unable to find a way to even the score. Utah's final knock of the day was a double from Ortiz, which matched her career high of two two-baggers in a game. Ortiz ended the regular season with nine hits in her last 20 at-bats.
