STILLWATER, Okla. –
Emily Capobianco crushed her team-high eighth homer of the season, but the University of Utah softball team suffered a 7-4 defeat to the No. 23 Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Friday evening in Big 12 Conference action at Cowgirl Stadium in Stillwater, Okla.
Utah's 2025 ledger now has them at 13-37 overall and 5-17 in the Big 12.
Both teams' bats remained silent for the first three innings thanks to the efforts of Utah's
Brooklyn Carreon and OSU's Ruby Meylan. Carreon stranded runners in scoring position in the first and the second before a 1-2-3 third to keep the contest scoreless.
The Utes broke the ice in the fourth thanks to Capobianco, who again used her power stroke to give her side the lead. With a runner on, she pulverized a 3-2 pitch, sending it over the wall in left-center to make the score 2-0. It marked the sixth time the junior slugger put Utah ahead with a home run in 2025, a mark that is tops on the squad.
Unfortunately for the visitors, that advantage was short-lived. A two-run homer and a run-scoring hit by pitch allowed the Cowgirls to slide in front in their half of the fourth and OSU upped its lead to 7-2 in the fifth, but the Utes fought back thanks to a two-run
Kennedy Proctor double in the sixth. That would be as close as Utah would come however, as they were unable to score in the seventh.
