FIRST SERVE
Utah women's tennis is set for the first road trip of the season, traveling to take on Montana and Minnesota in Missoula, Mont. The Utes will begin the first part of the road trip with a doubleheader against Montana this Friday, Jan 17. The first match set to take place at 9 a.m. MT, followed by the final match of the day at 3 p.m. MT at the Peak Racquet Club.

Utah will then wrap up the weekend with a neutral-site match against Minnesota on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 9 a.m. MT, which will also be held at the Peak Racquet Club.

IN THE RANKINGS
After a phenomenal fall season, Utah's top doubles team of sophomore
Madison Tattini and senior
Whitney Hekking will enter spring action ranked as the No. 24-ranked duo in the nation. Tattini and Hekking fell at No. 24 in the final ITA poll of the fall after posting an 8-2 fall record together. The Ute duo won the doubles title at the UNLV Invitational in November, while also reaching the semifinal round of the main draw at the ITA Mountain Region Championships after picking up four straight wins.

Hekking and Tattini carried over their dominance from the fall in the Utes' first matches of the season against Southern Utah, winning both of their doubles matches. The No. 24-ranked duo saw two matches against the Thunderbirds' Chloe Purkiss and Jessica Stefan, rolling to a 6-2 victory in Saturday's first match, followed by another dominant 6-1 win to end the day.

SCOUTING MONTANA
Montana women's tennis is coming off of a 4-17 overall record from the 2018-19 season, going 1-6 overall in Big Sky conference play. The Griz have five returners from last year's roster, and are led by junior Julia Ronney. Last season, Ronney picked up 15 wins in singles and tallied 10 wins in doubles. The last time that Utah faced off against Montana in the regular season was back in April of 2014, where the Utes were able to come away with a 7-0 sweep.

SCOUTING MINNESOTA
Minnesota is coming off of a 14-11 overall record from the 2018-19 season, managing a 6-5 record in Big 10 conference play. Minnesota has six returning players from last year's team and are led by senior Tiffany Huber. Paying primarily at the No. 2 position in singles, Huber produced the most singles wins on the season for the Gophers with 17.

Last season, Utah faced off with Minnesota in February and won the competitive match with a score of 4-3.
Madison Tattini and
Whitney Hekking each won singles matches, while both Utes also won their doubles match with their respective partners.
Emily Dush and
Lindsay Hung also picked up a doubles win as Utah's No. 3 duo.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah women's tennis hosted two matches against Southern Utah to open the 2020 season this past Saturday. The Utes started the season sweeping the Thunderbirds 7-0 in the first match of the day and would follow up with another sweep, 5-0, over SUU in the backend of the doubleheader.

All three Utah doubles teams took care of business in the first match to give Utah a 1-0 lead. Tattini,
Madeline Lamoreaux, Hekking and
Anya Lamoreaux all posted straight-set victories to clinch the win early on in the match.
Katya Hersh and
Emily Dush went to extra sets after both Utes fell in the first set of their respective matches, but Hersh and Dush bounced back to complete the clean sweep in the morning match.

In the second match, Hekking/Tattini and A. Lamoreaux/Hersh got the ball rolling and earned Utah the doubles point to take the 1-0 lead yet again. Finishing off the Thunderbirds in singles, Tattini, M. Lamoreaux, Hekking, Dush, and A. Lamoreaux, were all able to register wins as the Utes cruised past SUU with a 5-0 sweep.

UP NEXT
The Utah women's tennis team will continue action next week at the ITA Kickoff, which will be held in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Utes will first take on University of Central Florida on Saturday, Jan. 25. Utah will then end the weekend against either Michigan or Ole Miss on Sunday, Jan. 26 based on the previous match results at the ITA Kickoff.
