Utes Fall 4-2 to Cougars in Big 12 Tournament Round

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Utah women's tennis team battled in a 4-2 loss to BYU in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament Wednesday morning.
The Utes now have a 15-9 overall record on the season.
DOUBLES
The Utes started off strong by clinching the doubles point. Emma Kamper and Sara Akid started things off strong with a 6-3 win over Grace Levelston and Kendall Kovick at the No. 1 spot.
BYU claimed the victory at the No. 2 spot leaving the deciding point advantage down to the No. 3 spot.
At the No. 3 spot, Kaila Barksdale and Emmie Moore downed Bella Lewis and Sue Yan Tan 6-4 to claim the doubles point.
SINGLES
In singles action, Utah struggled to find momentum. Things started strong with Utah's Sara Akid capturing a win at the No. 2 spot over Kendall Kovick. Akid dominated her first set 6-2 and then pushed out for a 6-3 win in the second set.
BYU then picked up wins at the No. 5, No. 3 and No. 1 spots. The Cougars clinched the match on court six.
On Court 4, Kaila Barksdale was locked in against Yu-Yun Chen. Barksdale was down 4-1 in her first set and fought back to claim the set 7-5. She then dropped her second set 3-6 and was up 1-0 in the third before the match went unfinished.
