Women's Tennis Sweeps Montana in Two Matches

MISSOULA, Mont. – The University of Utah women's tennis team recorded two victories today, sweeping Montana 4-0 in both matches on Friday at the PEAK Racquet Club. The Utes move to 4-0 on the season following the pair of road wins earned today.

Moving to singles, Whitney Hekking earned the first singles win of the day at the No. 3 spot as she recorded a quick 6-1, 6-0 victory over Goheen. Madeline Lamoreaux followed shortly after with a win of her own and knocked off Oosterbaan in the No. 2 position 6-0, 6-4. Needing just one more singles win, Utah's top singles player Madison Tattini then completed the sweep over Montana with a win over Ronney. Tattini came out on top 6-4, 6-3 to close out the first match of the doubleheader against the Grizzlies.
Ready for the second match against Montana, the duo of Dush and M. Lamoreaux recorded yet another victory on court two, this time defeating Walker and Dunlap, 6-1. The nation's No. 24-ranked doubles team of Hekking and Tattini then secured the doubles point after they beat out Ronney and Oosterbaan at the No. 1 spot, 6-3.

Courts three through six kicked off singles action and were highlighted by Hersh and A. Lamoreaux picking up quick 6-2, 6-0 wins against their respective opponents. Once again needing just one singles win to complete the sweep, Dush came through for Utah and downed Montana's Dunlap 6-2, 7-5 to mark the second 4-0 win for Utah over Montana.Â

Utah women's tennis will close out the weekend this Sunday, Jan. 19, playing one more match at the PEAK Racquet Club in Missoula, Mont. Utah will match up against Minnesota in the neutral-site contest at 9 a.m. MT.

"Solid effort from the team today," said head coach Ric Mortera. "I was happy with how they competed and how they continued to improve as the day went on. We will use the day tomorrow to get some rest and start prepping for Minnesota on Sunday."
