LAMOREAUX DOMINATES
In her first tournament as a Ute,
Madeline Lamoreaux had a dominant showing at the Miami Fall Invite where she went undefeated, picking up three singles wins and a doubles victory. A transfer student from Eastern Washington and the 2019 Big Sky Freshman of the Year, she was quickly able to make her presence known on the Utah women's tennis team.
Â
During the first day of action at the tournament, she was paired with
Emily Dush in doubles and defeated Georgia State's Alba Retorillo and LSU's Luba Vasilyuk, 7-5, to advance to the semifinal round. In singles, Lamoreaux matched up against Florida Atlantic's Harris Calwell and came away with a 6-2, 6-2 win. She then wrapped up her weekend with two matches on Sunday against Andreea Stanescu from Georgia State and Nada Dimovska from Miami. In three sets, she was able to overcome Stanescu with a score of 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-6), and then cruised past Dimovska with a 6-1, 6-3 score to complete her first weekend as a Ute.Â
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Utah women's tennis team opened their fall slate last weekend at the Miami Fall Invite. Despite battling severe weather conditions at the three-day event, which included forcing Saturday's play to be cancelled, the Utes went 9-3 in the first event of the fall.Â
Â
On the doubles side, the No. 55 ranked duo of
Whitney Hekking and
Madison Tattini picked up their first win as a pair against a duo from Florida Gulf Coast.
Emily Dush and
Madeline Lamoreaux also secured a double win for Utah on the first day of action.
Â
Hekking and Lamoreaux notched singles wins in the round of 16 that advanced them to the quarterfinals. Lamoreaux went on to win her next two matches to reach that would have positioned her to compete in the singles final, but the weather did not allow for the tournament draws to be played out. Tattini dropped her first match on Friday, but bounced back to win her next two matches in the consolation bracket.Â
