Women's Tennis Completes First Day of SDSU Fall Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of Utah women's tennis team wrapped up the first day of tournament play at the SDSU Fall Classic late Friday afternoon. The Utes competed in one round of singles, as well as one round of doubles.
To start things off in doubles, Jasmine Rich and Anya Lamoreaux were victorious in the 'White' bracket as they knocked off San Jose State's Tamara Culibrk and Laura Malsert with a score of 6-3. The Ute duo will now face off against Mia Smith/Abbie Mulbarger from tournament host San Diego State in the semifinal round of the 'White' bracket.
In the 'Red' draw, Lindsay Hung and Katya Hersh fell short to McNeese State's Dalia Ahmed and Sofia San Jose Moreno, with a score of 1-6. Hung/Hersh will continue play in the consolation bracket and will match up against Jolene Coetzee/Ana Isabel Fraile Toboso from California State University at Northridge.
Madison McKay was paired up with Lauren Anderson from CSUN in the 'Black' bracket of doubles and dropped the match against UTEP's Eve Daniels/Lina Sachica, falling 2-6. McKay will now be paired with Marija Mastilovic from McNeese State in the consolation bracket. The duo will play against Cecile Morin/Augustina Rimoldi Godoy from San Diego State in tomorrow's action.
Following doubles play and onto singles, Hung topped Marija Mastilovic from McNesse State in the 'Red' flight, tabbing a 6-4, 6-1 victory. She will meet Celia Morel from Grand Canyon in the semifinal round. In the 'Black' flight of singles, Hersh will be moving on to the semifinal round of singles due to a bye, but did compete in a non-flighted match where she won 6-3, 6-0 over Lauren Anderson.
In the 'White' bracket, Lamoreaux fell against Lara Marco Mas from SJSU, with a final score of 3-6, 3-6. She moves to the consolation side of the bracket and will play against Jana Weiss from Grand Canyon. Rich fell short to SDSU's Julia Jordan in the 'Gold' flight, 1-6, 0-6, and will compete tomorrow against Sofia San Jose Moreno from McNeese State.
McKay rounded things off for the Utes in singles, competing in the 'Gray' bracket against Mathilde Lirzin from Grand Canyon. McKay dropped the contest with a score of 3-6, 3-6.
The Utah women's tennis team will continue play tomorrow at the SDSU Fall Classic with competition starting at 9 a.m. PT. Tournament play tomorrow will begin with one round of doubles and followed by one round of singles.
