SALT LAKE CITY –The University of Utah women's tennis program will return to the Eccles Tennis Center this weekend, as they will open up Pac-12 conference play with matches against No. 28 Washington State on Friday, March 8
th, followed by a match against No. 7 Washington on Sunday, March 10
th.
Utah's match against Washington State will begin at 12 p.m. MT on Friday, with its battle against Washington taking place at 11 a.m. MT on Sunday, with both matches will be held in the Eccles Tennis Center on the University of Utah campus. Both matches will be
live streamed with live updates also available on Twitter (@UtahTennis) and Instagram (@UtahTennis).
Since joining the Pac-12 in 2011, the Utes have met seven times with Washington State, holding a 4-3 overall record against the Cougars. The Utes have also met seven time with Washington since they joined the Pac-12, holding a 3-4 overall record against the Huskies.
The Utes enter Pac-12 conference play with an overall record of 7-2 on the season, and are coming off of a 7-0 sweep against Western Michigan on Tuesday.
Utah started off strong against the Broncos, earning the doubles point with two quick wins. The first victory came from the duo of
Whitney Hekking and
Leah Heimuli on court No. 2, as they were able to defeat Melina Lyubomirova and Femke Tjon-A-Joe with a score of 6-0. To then seal the point,
Brianna Chisholm and
Madison Tattini tallied a win of their own at the No. 1 spot, defeating Katja Fevralev and Kristina Tiraspolsky 6-1.
In singles, Chisholm kept things rolling with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 1 position, as she was able to top Denise Azcui. Hekking followed shortly after with a win on the No. 5 court, knocking off Valerie Riegraf with a score of 6-0, 6-4. Then, to seal the victory for the Utes,
Lindsay Hung was able to pull off a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 4 spot against Kristina Tiraspolsky, to improve the Utes' record to 7-2 on the season. Victories by Heimuli,
Emily Dush, and Tattini were also recorded, giving the Utes the 7-0 sweep against Western Michigan.
