Utah created a pair of chances around the 15-minute mark as Baylee Nielsen and Kaycee Buckley were both denied by UNLV goalkeeper Jordan Sallee.
In the 24th minute, Avery Jenkins played her corner-kick short to Katie Taylor. The senior midfielder knocked the ball back to Gibb and the defender's try hit the crossbar before bouncing over the goal line for a Ute lead.
After that point, Mariah Elmer and Taylor Slattery had quality looks at goal but Sallee responded with crucial saves. Utah's Lindsey Luke matched her at the other end with stops of Denali Murnan and Kaila Brinkman to keep the home side up a goal at halftime.
UNLV controlled the tempo in the second half and after a Utah foul in the area, the Rebels equalized via a Murnan penalty kick in the 63rd minute.
Mikayla Elmer had the best scoring chance for the Utes about 20 minutes into the half, but was stopped by Sallee.
In overtime, Mariah Elmer put a try wide but most of the action was at the other end where Luke made three saves to keep the game even and earn her side a draw.
The Utes hit the road for a Sunday contest at UC Davis. Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. PT
