SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team fell to seventh-ranked Washington, 11-1, in game two of the three-game series on Saturday afternoon.
Utah's Zach Adams and Washington's Tyler Davis spent several innings locked in a pitchers duel before the Huskies scored nine runs in the final three innings to take control of the game.
Adams pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Josh Chapman, Hunter Rodriguez and Luke West all saw time on the mound.
Konnor Armijo went 2-for-3 to lead the Utes at the plate.
Washington got on the board early, putting up a run in the first inning after a leadoff single. A sacrifice bunt and stolen base led to a run after a wild pitch. The Huskies took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run.
From there the pitching took over, as the score remained 2-0 until the seventh inning when Washington added three runs on five hits to take a 5-0 lead.
Utah got on the board in the seventh. Wyler Smith and Armijo both singled and Cory Hunt walked, loading the bases with one out. Josh Rose drove home a run with a sacrifice fly before a fly out ended the inning.
The Huskies continued to increase their lead, adding a run in the eighth inning and five runs in the ninth.
Utah left nine runners stranded on base throughout the game.
The Utes and Huskies play game three of the series on Sunday, May 4, at noon.
