Seven Run Fourth Inning Lifts Utes over Cougars, 11-2

PROVO, Utah - A seven-run fourth inning lifted the Utah baseball team to an 11-2 victory over BYU on Friday evening.
The Utes were down 2-1 in the fourth inning before breaking the game open with seven runs. Utah took advantage of several walks and two errors, getting just three hits in the inning. Nick Kuroczko hit a two-RBI single to left field in the inning while C.J. Cron hit a two-RBI double down the right field line that was just fair for the big hits of the inning.
Cron hit another two-RBI double in the eighth inning to increase the Utes lead while Nik Gumeson's solo home run in the ninth capped the scoring.
Rick Cornu also homered in the game, giving Utah a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Cron was 2-for-4 with four RBI, while Kuroczko was also 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Gumeson and Michael Beltran each had a pair of hits and every batter in the Utah lineup had at least one hit.
Rick Anton held off the BYU lineup, allowing two run on six hits over eight innings with six strikeouts. He raises his record to 6-2 on the season. Stephen Streich pitched the final inning, striking out two batters.
"Anton pitched great tonight against a really good lineup," head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "The big inning was really good but C.J.'s double in the eighth inning was big to get us over the hump. The guys were really loose tonight and the bench was really into it."
Sean McNaughton was 2-for-3 for BYU.
The game was televised on BYUTV. The game will re-air on The Mtn. on Saturday, April 24, at 6:00 p.m. MT.
Utah and BYU play the final game of the series on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Provo.
