Offensive Struggles Continue in 4-1 Loss to UNLV

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team continued to struggle on offense as the Utes closed out their three-game series on Sunday against UNLV with a 4-1 loss.
"We didn't swing the bats well all weekend, which was disappointing," head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "We couldn't get anything going offensively."
UNLV scored two runs in the top of the first inning on a two-RBI double by Brandon Bayardi. The Utes cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first inning after Tyler Yagi led off with a double, moving over on Zach Jones' sacrifice bunt before scoring on a sacrifice fly to center from Nick Kuroczko.
Utah pitcher Bryn Card and UNLV's Matt Hutchison spent most of the game in a pitchers duel, as the game remained at 2-1 until the eighth inning. Card allowed two hits to the Rebels in the third inning, but got out of the jam. The Utes left runners on base in fourth, sixth and seventh innings.
UNLV broke through in the eighth inning with two runs on three hits to go up 4-1. Drew Beuerlein had an RBI double down the left field line and Bayardi added to the lead with an RBI triple.
Utah had two of their five hits in the eighth inning, but stranded both runners on base. The Utes also left a runner on in the ninth.
Yagi had two hits to lead the Utes.
Card pitched 7.1 innings, striking out three and allowing two earned runs. He falls to 2-2 on the year. Hutchison pitched a complete game for UNLV, striking out four.
Utah returns to the field on Tuesday, April 13, traveling to Orem for a road game against Utah Valley beginning at 6:00 p.m.
