Timely Hitting Dooms Utes Against Rebels

SALT LAKE CITY - Despite out-hitting UNLV, the Utah baseball team fell to the Rebels, 4-2, in the second game of the series on Saturday afternoon.
Utah had 11 hits compared to six for UNLV. However, the Utes were hurt by three errors and left seven runners on base throughout the game.
Down 2-0, Utah tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Nik Gumeson hit a two-out double, scoring when Jo Jo Sharrar singled up the middle. Rick Cornu kept the rally going with a triple deep to right field that scored Sharrar and tied the game.
UNLV scored two runs on three hits in the top of the seventh to pull ahead. Although the Utes had hits in the eighth and ninth innings, double plays ended the innings for UNLV.
Tyler Yagi and Gumeson each had three hits to lead the Utes. Sharrar and Cornu each had two hits and an RBI.
Rick Anton threw eight innings on the mound for the Utes, allowing three earned runs with six hits, striking out five. He falls to 5-2 on the year. Brock Duke pitched the final inning and had one strikeout.
Utah and UNLV play the final game of the series on Sunday, April 11, at 1:00 p.m. at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
