The University of Utah women's soccer team wraps up the regular season this week with a road trip to Laramie, Wyo.
The Utes will play at Wyoming Saturday at Noon.
Last week, Utah saw a 13-match unbeaten streak come to an end with a 3-0 loss at TCU on Friday. But the Utes bounced back with a 2-1, Senior Day victory over San Diego State Sunday at Ute Field. Adele Letro and Kelly Isleib both found the back of the net for Utah in the win over the Aztecs.
Utah has never lost to Wyoming. The Utes and Cowgirls have hooked up on the pitch 14 times in the past with Utah holding a 14-0-0 series record, including a 4-0-0 mark in Laramie.
Opening Kick
Utah has plenty to play for Saturday at Wyoming. The Utes know going into the match that a victory will get them the No. 2 seed in next week's Mountain West Conference Tournament. More importantly, the No. 2 seed would give Utah a first-round bye.
If Friday's match between BYU and UNLV ends in a tie, the Utes will also be playing for a share of the MWC regular-season championship Saturday.
Adele's Adept at Scoring
Junior Adele Letro (Davis, Calif.) broke Utah's 299-minute scoring drought Sunday, when she connected in the 69th minute against SDSU. The goal was her 17th of the season, moving her into second place on the school single-season chart.
Letro ranks No. 1 in the MWC and No. 3 in the nation in goals per game (1.0). Letro also has four assists, giving her 38 total points for an average of 2.24 per game, which ranks No. 1 in the MWC and No. 6 in the nation.
Letro has scored in nearly half (28-of-59) of her career games. She has 8 career multi-goal games and 18 career game-winning goals.
Finally for Kelly
Utah sophomore Kelly Isleib (Park City, Utah) ranks No. 1 in the Mountain Wst and No. 2 in the nation in assists per game. The Ute midfielder is averaging 0.75 assists per contest. But try as she might, she had yet to score a goal this season coming into last Sunday's game with SDSU.
Isleib picked a good time for her first goal of the season and her first game-winning tally. With less than two minutes remaining, Isleib smoked a ball into the lower left corner of the goal from the top of the 18, lifting her team to a 2-1 victory over the Aztecs.
Special K
Junior Katy Reineke (Salt Lake City) has somewhat flown under the radar and quietly had a great season for Utah.
Reineke is the team's second-leading goal scorer, with nine. She is also second on the team in assists with five. Her 23 points are second-best on the team, third in the MWC and 94th in the nation.
Reineke is also tied for third in the MWC and 98th in the nation in goals per game, averaging 0.50 goals per contest. She leads the Mountain West Conference in shots, averaging 3.94 per contest.
