FORT WORTH, Texas - The University of Utah held a 3-0 lead after two innings Saturday afternoon at Texas Christian University. But the Ute pitching staff allowed 18 runs from the third through eighth innings and the Horned Frogs took an 18-3 victory.

Utah (22-22, 5-10 MWC) put two of its seven hits together with a walk and an error in the first inning. Shortstop Ryan Khoury, second baseman Tyler Kmetko and first baseman Jay Brossman all scored in the inning. Ute hurler Eric King held TCU at bay for the first two innings.

The Horned Frogs scored a single run in the third inning, after a 53-minute rain delay. The delay changed the entire complexion of the game. With TCU trailing 3-1 after three innings, the Horned Frogs started pounding the ball in the fourth.

TCU (28-20, 14-4 MWC) put four runs on the board in the fourth, grabbing a 5-3 lead. The Frogs continued to pour it on from there. They added six more runs in the fifth inning, using six hits to take an 11-3 advantage. Four TCU runs in the seventh and three in the eighth accounted for the final deficit.

King (3-7) suffered the loss for Utah. He allowed eight runs in 4 2/3 innings of work. Shad McCord, Brian Lane and Chase Christensen all came out of the Ute bullpen and all three allowed at least one run. Brad Furnish (5-5) took the win for TCU. He worked six innings and allowed Utah's three runs.

Center fielder John Welsh led the Utah offense with two hits. Khoury saw his 19-game hitting streak come to an end, going 0-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. Chad Huffman was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBIs to pace TCU at the plate.

The series wraps up Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.
