PROVO, Utah -- The University of Utah used a three-run, ninth-inning rally to come from behind and stop BYU 5-4 Tuesday night at Miller Park.

Utah entered the ninth inning trailing 3-2. Erich Kemp and Joe Mozeleski got the Ute rally started with base hits. Adam Frank then ripped a hanging, two-strike slider over third base for a two-run double. Frank's double chased Kemp and Mozeleski home with the tying and go-ahead runs.

Utah shorstop Ryan Khoury then delivered a two-out, RBI single to score Frank with an important insurance run. Frank's run gave Utah a 5-3 advantage.

"Kemp, Mozeleski, Frank and Khoury all really came through big for us in the ninth inning," Kinneberg said.

BYU scored a single run in the ninth to pull within one run, 5-4. The Cougars then loaded the bases with one out. But Ute reliever Brad DeVore got out of the jam and secured the victory by inducing a line-drive double play to end the game.

Utah worked around five errors in the contest en route to the one-run victory.

"This was a very good win for us," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said afterward. "We pitched very well for the most part. We played as bad on defense as we have all year, but we overcame that and found a way to win. That was terrific."

Utah trailed 1-0 after two innings. The Utes then took a 2-1 advantage in the top of the third. Freshman Corey Shimada hit his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot, to give Utah the lead. Shimada's round-tripper also accounted for his first two collegiate RBIs.

BYU tied the contest 2-2 with a single run in the sixth. The Cougars took the 3-2 lead they took into the ninth with another single tally in the seventh.
