SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team was out-hit 12-6 in a 15-2 loss to UNLV this afternoon at Franklin Covey Field. With the loss, the Utes fall to 10-21 on the year and 3-9 in Mountain West Conference play.

Junior Doug Mackay suffered the loss on the mound, falling to 2-5 on the year. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits, while striking out three and walking six.

UNLV quickly took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first on a pair of Utah errors, an RBI-triple and a ground out. The Rebels plated another run in the second and two more in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead.

Utah finally got on the board in the bottom of the seventh when senior Jared Pena doubled to left field, stole third and was brought home on a double play. In the top of the eighth, the Rebels added another run on a fielder's choice to make it an 8-1 game.

UNLV plated two runs on back-to-back first-pitch solo homers in the top of the ninth, then added one run on a bases-loaded walk, another on a bases-loaded ground out and then three more on a home run to center field to take a 15-1 lead.

Senior Nate Schlieman led off the bottom of the ninth with a solo homer to make it a 15-2 game.

Pena led Utah at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run. He was the only Ute with a multi-hit game.
