LAWRENCE, Kan.--The Utah softball team dropped its sixth-straight game as it fell to Kansas on Sunday afternoon, 3-1. The loss put the Utes (6-11) at 0-4 for the Hampton Inn/Jayhawk Classic, while host Kansas (11-4) is a perfect 3-0 going into its final game against No. 17/18 Nebraska.
Utah would strike first in the game after Glennis Donnelly reached base and then scored on a double by Melissa Stahnke. The lead was short lived as Kansas would tie the game at 1-1 after producing back-to-back doubles. The Jayhawks would then take the lead when two runners scored after a diving catch by Ute centerfielder Sarah Lyman, which she appeared to control, was ruled a hit.
Down 3-1, Utah tried to get something going in the top of the seventh after Kate Nygaard led off with a hit. But, the next Ute batter would ground into a double play to end the attack.
Heather Bowlin is credited with the loss to drop her to 0-5 on the year. Stahnke had the RBI double and a triple to lead the Ute offense, while Donnelly added a single and a double.
On Deck: Utah travels to Fresno, Calif., for the Clovis Auto Row Classic, March 12-14.
