LAS VEGAS, Nev.The Utes dropped a 2-1 game to No. 13 DePaul at the UNLV Softball Classic on a chilly Saturday night. Utah drops to 4-4 overall and 1-3 at the Classic-with all three losses being against ranked opponents. Utah wraps up the Classic against UC Riverside on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (PST).
DePaul scored its two runs in the first inning on a double to right center. It would knock nine hits in the game, but would strand seven of those runners. Utah brought in its first run of the game in the bottom of the seventh. Ivette Hernandez ripped a double to left center to bring in pinch runner Jenni Thurston. But the rally fell short for the Utes as they left two runners on to end the game.
Freshman Melissa Oakes (0-2) is credited with the loss for Utah. Melissa Stahnke knocked two hits in the game to lead the Utes' offense.
