Henderson Garners AVCA Accolade

SALT LAKE CITY - Utah's Lyndsey Henderson garnered her third accolade of the season when the American Volleyball Coaches Association named her to the West all-region squad this afternoon.
"I'm very happy for Lyndsey," remarked head coach Beth Launiere. "She had her best season this year and carried us to the Mountain West Conference Championship. She deserves all the recognition that she is receiving."
The 6-5 middle blocker was one of the premiere players in the Mountain West Conference this season. Her 1.67 blocks per game ranked second in the conference and eighth nationally (as of Dec. 7). She averaged 3.59 kills per game and hit .322 for the season, checking in at third and fifth in the MWC, respectively.
She racked up double-digit kills in 25 of the 30 matches this season. That includes a career-best 22 kills in leading Utah to an upset victory over then-No. 6 UCLA. Henderson was also tabbed MWC Player of the Week (Oct. 18) for a standout weekend in leading Utah to a pair of road wins against Colorado State and Wyoming. She led the Ute offense in hitting .580 that weekend. That included 20 kills on .680 hitting against the Cowgirls. Also, the win over then-No. 7 Colorado State was the first for Utah in Fort Collins, Colo., in 19 tries.
Henderson was also tabbed all-Mountain West Conference in addition to her all-region and conference Player of the Week honors.
The Utes wrapped up one of their most successful seasons last weekend. Utah went 24-7 for the year and 13-1 in conference tilts. It won its first MWC regular season title and made its fourth straight appearance in the MWC tournament title match. The Utes also made their seventh straight NCAA appearance when it dropped a 3-0 decision to Long Beach State in the first round.
