Utah Head Coach Rich Manning
"Congratulations to Bill (Hempen) and Colorado. They played a terrific game. It was a well-deserved win. As advertised, they had good ball skills, move the ball quickly and caused some problems. I felt if you ask the players, we could have played a little better. But we hung in there, showed a lot of guts and character as we did during the second half of the season. We hung in there enough to give ourselves a couple chances. That was a real positive."
On the development of this team: "Our team really grew this year.We developed some team quality and character muscles as the course of the season went on. We got hit in the face over and over again and had to deal with adversity especially in the beginning. We improved and created some character muscle. That will this team's legacy and that will serve us well next year. The ball kept bouncing our way last year. The girls can now say, `I am stronger than I thought I was.' I am very proud. You can say, we didn't get any breaks. We kept losing people. Some might have felt it was unfair, but that's the way the course of the season goes."
Ute Senior Lauren Field
On looking back at her career: "It has come a long way. When I was a freshman, we were not expected to get into the tournament. In my sophomore year, we improved our program in all sorts of ways. We went from not being expected to be in the tournament to now where, if we don't make into the tournament it would be a shock. Along with that is the expectation to win. It was definitely a disappointment tonight. Things happen and we must move on. Definitely congratulations to Colorado."
Ute Senior Tracy Stratton Garner
On how has the program come along in terms of its development: "When I was a freshman we had goals such as winning the conference a tournament and beating BYU. Our focus has shifted from getting into the tournament into winning the championship. It is up to these girls in the next couple of years to set higher goals. I didn't get into the tournament my freshman and sophomore years. Now they are already two years ahead of me. Coming into the tournament as a freshman, there is definitely an advantage. I know our freshmen and underclassmen are going to be hungry to win next year and they will take that with them the next four years."
Colorado Head Coach Bill Hempen
"I thought our girls played really well out of the gate. We played some good soccer then all of the sudden we stopped. We thought we could do whatever we wanted. But we hung together until the end of the game defensively."
