SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's soccer team (11-5-2, 3-2-1) earned the fourth seed in the 2004 Mountain West Conference Tournament, which runs Wednesday through Saturday at BYU's South Stadium in Provo, Utah. The Utes face Wyoming (9-6-4, 3-3-0), the fifth seed, in the first quarterfinal game on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
UNLV claimed its first outright regular-season Mountain West Conference title with a 3-0 win over San Diego State on Saturday. The victory over the Aztecs earned the Rebels (12-3-2 overall, 5-1-0 MWC) the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
San Diego State and BYU tied for second-place in the conference with 3-1-2 records. The Cougars (7-9-4 overall) will get the second seed after earning the tiebreak advantage due to goal differential in conference matches. San Diego State (6-7-5 overall) claimed the third seed, while New Mexico (5-11-0, 1-5-0) will get the sixth seed and the seventh seed will go to Air Force (3-12-2, 0-5-1).
Following the Utah vs. Wyoming game on Wednesday, No. 3 seed San Diego State faces No. 6 seed New Mexico at 4:30 p.m., and No. 2 seed BYU vs. takes on No. 7 Air Force at 7 p.m. UNLV receives a first round bye and plays the winner of Utah vs. Wyoming on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The other semifinal match is set for 7 p.m.
The Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship match is slated for 11 a.m. on Saturday with the winner receiving an automatic bid into the 2004 NCAA Women's College Cup.
