POCATELLO, Idaho - Lauren Field and Tracy Stratton scored in the first 51 minutes and Utah's defense allowed just one shot on goal at the Utes defeated Idaho State 2-0 on Thursday afternoon at Davis Field.
Utah, ranked 24th by Soccer America, got its fifth straight win to improve to 7-1. The Utes fired eight shots in both halves, forcing ISU goalkeeper Shannon Boyle to make seven saves. Utah also had 12 corner kicks, two of which set up goals. Idaho State (4-3-1) managed just two shots.
The Utes pressured Boyle early in the first half, forcing her to make several saves. Field got Utah on the board 31:43 in, punching through a long shot after a corner kick was cleared out. It was her fifth goal of the season.
Field assisted on Utah's second goal in the 51st minute. Directly off a corner kick, Field set up Tracy Stratton, who tapped in her second goal of the year.
Ute keeper Kaycie Zimmerman only had to make one save behind a stingy Utah defense. It was the Utes' third shutout of the season and the first solo effort by Zimmerman, a product of Mountain View High School.
Utah hosts Florida, ranked No. 2 by Soccer America, at Ute Field on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
