LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Utah baseball team fell to 22-29 on the season and 9-19 in Mountain West Conference play with a 12-7 loss at No. 15 and league-leader UNLV tonight, despite smacking three home runs on the game.

Sophomore Clay Westmoreland suffered the loss on the mound. He pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits. He struck out three and walked one.

Utah struck in the top of the first when junior Mike Westfall hit a two-run homer to put the Utes up 2-0.

UNLV plated one run in the bottom of the second on an RBI-double, making it 2-1 in favor of the Utes.

Then, in the top of the third, freshman Ryan Khoury tripled to left center and scored on a ground out by Westfall.

The Rebels cut the Utah lead to one in the bottom of the third on a ground out RBI.

UNLV took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth on a grand slam, making it 6-3. They added another in the fifth on a solo homer.

The Rebels plated four more runs, all unearned, in the sixth. They followed with another solo homer in the bottom of the seventh, bringing the score to 12-3.

Trying to rally, Westfall led off the ninth with a solo homer, his second long ball of the game. Senior Jake Jordison then followed with his 13th home run of the year, a two-run shot.

Later in the inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, the Rebels walked in a run, making it 12-7. The bases still loaded, Westfall had a chance to make it interesting, but struck out, ending the game.

Westfall finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs and four RBI, while Jordison went 2-for-3 with one run and two driven in.
