CEDAR CITY, Utah - After coming from behind to take a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning, the Utah baseball team gave up five runs in the sixth inning to drop the nightcap vs. Southern Utah, 8-4. With the loss, the Utes fall to 19-21 on the season.
Sophomore Dan Simonsen took the loss, falling to 0-2 on the season. He gave up three hits and five runs, all of which were earned.
Southern Utah jumped out to a 3-0 lead after scoring two runs in the first and another in the second.
Utah tied things up in the fourth when junior Mike Westfall scored on a wild pitch and junior Eric Chevalier and senior Jake Jordison both scored on bases-loaded walks.
The Utes took the lead in the fifth when Chevalier singled, then stole second. He came home on a Jordison double, making it 4-3.
The Thunderbirds then scored five unanswered runs in the sixth to win the game.
Chevalier finished the game 3-for-4 and scored two runs. Jordison, senior Wick Udy and freshman Matt Anderson each went 1-for-3 on the game with one RBI apiece. Jordison also scored a run.

The Utes and Thunderbirds close out the series at 1 p.m. tomorrow, April 22, in Cedar City.
