CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Utah baseball team got a much-needed win in the first half of a doubleheader at Southern Utah this afternoon, winning 4-2.
Freshman Derek Larsen got the win on the mound, going five innings and giving up one run on three hits. He struck out three batters.
Freshman Jason Price got the save, his first of the year. He pitched 2/3 of an inning with one strikeout.
The Utes scored early when sophomore Matt Ciaramella reached home on an Eric Chevalier base hit.
Utah made it 2-0 in the second when junior Cort Wilson scored on a Ciaramella fielder's choice.
After a Thunderbird scored in the third, Chevalier added to the Utes' lead in the fifth when he scored on a wild pitch.
The final Utah run came in the seventh, when Ciaramella scored on a Chevalier triple.
Southern Utah scored for the last time in the eighth on a failed pickoff attempt.
Chevalier finished the game 3-for-4 with one run and two RBI. Freshman Ryan Khoury was 2-for-4 on the game.
