SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team fell to Brigham Young 6-4 in game two of the three-game series at Franklin Covey Field this afternoon. With the loss, the Utes fall to 11-14 overall and 2-6 in the Mountain West Conference.

After a scoreless first, the Cougars scored one run in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead.

Utah answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth when freshman Ryan Khoury singled, followed by a senior Jake Jordison double.

Sophomore Matt Ciaramella then hit a one-run single. Sophomore Brett Sundberg then singled, driving in the other two runs.

BYU answered with three runs of its own in the top of the seventh to take a 6-3 lead.

The Utes were in a position to rally in the bottom of the eighth when junior Eric Chevalier tripled, followed by a Sundberg one-run double, bringing the game within two (6-4). T.R. Gourley pinch ran for Sundberg, but was stranded by the next two batters.

Sophomore Clay Westmoreland took the loss for the Utes, falling to 2-2 on the season. He threw 6 1/3 innings giving up three runs on eight hits.

Sophomore Brady Martinez pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief, striking out six batters. He gave up three runs on four hits.

Sundberg went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while junior Mike Westfall was 2-for-4. Khoury went 2-for-5 with one run.
