Ute Baseball Team Defeats New Mexico 6-1

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team evened the series at one apiece and evened its record at 11-11 with a 6-1 win over New Mexico this afternoon at Franklin Covey Field.
Sophomore Clay Westmoreland (2-1) got the win, throwing seven innings and giving up just one run on three hits, while striking out four.
Sophomore Brady Martinez pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. He also struck out four batters.
Utah scored two runs in the bottom of the first when junior Jared Pena reached home on a Wick Udy double. Udy then scored on a double by senior Jake Jordison.
After two scoreless innings, the Lobos scored their only run of the game on a one-run double in the top of the fourth inning. Utah responded with a run of its own when junior Mike Westfall sacrifice flied in sophomore Matt Ciaramella.
Utah added to its lead with one run in the bottom of the seventh, another Udy RBI, and two more in the eighth on a two-run homer by freshman Ryan Khoury.
The Utes finished the game with 14 hits, led by Udy, who was 3-for-4 on the day, driving in two runs and scoring another.
Ciaramella and sophomore Brett Sundberg also went 3-for-4, while Jordison was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
UP NEXT:
The Utes close out the series at noon tomorrow, March 23, at Franklin Covey.
