COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The University of Utah baseball team defeated Creighton University 2-1 in extra innings with a pair of solo homers at the Texas A&M Domino's Pizza Aggie Classic in College Station, Texas, this morning.
Sophomore starter Doug Mackay got the win to improve to 1-0 on the season. He pitched seven innings, giving up five hits and one run while striking out seven. Sophomore Brady Martinez got the save, his third of the year, in one inning of relief. He struck out two of the three batters he faced.
Senior Jake Jordison homered in the top of the second to put Utah up 1-0. Creighton tied it a one apiece in the bottom of the fourth.
Still tied after seven, the game went into extra innings when freshman Ryan Khoury smacked the game-winning run, a home run to left center, giving Utah a 2-1 advantage. Martinez then came in and retired three straight batters to secure the win.
