SALT LAKE CITY - Due to the heavy snowfall on the University of Utah campus over the last week, the Mountain West Conference Soccer Championships have been moved from Ute Field to Rice-Eccles Stadium, which has a Field Turf surface. As of Tuesday midday, the Ute Field surface was covered with eight inches of snow and deemed unplayable by tournament officials.
The quarterfinal matches on Wednesday have been moved back due to more snow during the morning. The games will feature BYU (No. 2) taking on Air Force (No. 7) at 11:15 a.m., Wyoming (No. 3) vs. New Mexico (No. 6) at 2:00 p.m., and San Diego State (No. 4) vs. UNLV (No. 5) at 5:00 p.m.
The times for the semifinals and championship game have been changed because of the weather delays. Top-seeded Utah will receive a first round bye and play the winner of San Diego State vs. UNLV in the semifinals on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. The other semifinal match is set for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Championship match is slated for noon on Saturday with the winner receiving an automatic bid into the 2003 NCAA Women's College Cup.
Fans will be accommodated in the stands on the west side of Rice-Eccles Stadium, accessible through Gate D. All-tournament packages and single-session tickets may be purchased at the Rice-Eccles Stadium box office or by calling (801) 581-UTIX.
