PULLMAN, Wash. - Junior forward Missy Dennis leads Utah to victory over Washington State (5-1-0) with two goals Friday night at the Lower Soccer Field.
Coming into the game, both teams marked an undefeated season record. The Utes offensive performance capitalized on Washington State's defense as the Cougars picked up their first loss of the season, while the Utes improved to 4-0-2 overall.
The Utes' balanced offense attack overwhelmed the Cougars. Dennis' first goal came off a break away from the Cougars defense at the 36:24 mark to take a 1-0 lead. Utah snagged their second goal from Dennis off an assist from teammate Esther Imotan at the 49:18 mark. Utah secured the victory at the 56th minute with a goal by junior Jen Williams. Williams' header goal came off a corner kick assisted by junior Bobbie Benegas.
Utah's defense only allowed one shot-on-goal, while the Ute forwards contributed seven shot-on-goal attempts. Goalkeeper Lynnsey Asay-Kimball came away with one save. The Utes outshot the Cougars 12-7 in the contest.
