ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Despite knocking in 11 runs off 18 hits, the Utes were unable to catch up to New Mexico on Saturday, losing 20-11. The loss drops Utah to 12-10 on the year and boosts New Mexico to 12-12. The series concludes on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (MT).
The Utes jumped out to an 10-4 lead after 3.2 innings of play, but New Mexico unleashed 12 runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for good, 16-10. The Lobos went on to score four more runs to Utah's one for a 20-11 victory.
All but one of Utah's starters posted multiple hits in the loss, including three by Adam Castleton and Donald Hawes. The two seniors each banged out a home run and knocked in three runs each in the loss. Nate Weese also had three RBI for the Utes off two hits, extending his hitting streak to 17 games.
Cheyenne Rushton (3-1) threw 3.2 innings, but allowed 11 runs to earn the loss. Kris Gross picks up the win for the Lobos after giving up four runs (three earned) in 6.0 innings of relief.
