ST. GEORGE, Utah--Southern Utah knocked out a pair of two-out two-run home runs in the first and second inning to jump out to a, 0-4 lead and eventually a, 4-7 win over Utah on Saturday night. The loss drops the Utes to 8-7 on the season while SUU (1-14) picks up its first win of the year.
Trailing, 0-4 in the Utah third, Adam Castleton blasted his second home run of the series over the left field wall to cut the lead to, 2-4. The Thunderbirds answered with two of its own when Kurtis Yokum blasted the T-birds third home run of the game to make it a, 2-6 ballgame. SUU added one more in the fourth to increase the lead to, 2-7, but the Utes answered with two more runs in the seventh after Donnie Saba belted the ball over the left field wall to score Adam Castleton and cut the lead to, 4-7.
The Utes had a chance to cut the lead in the top of the eighth when they loaded the bases with no outs. Steven Stoker retired the next three batters leaving three stranded for Utah. On the night, the Utes stranded nine runners.
For the Utes, Sean Overholt (0-4) picks up his fourth loss of the season after allowing six runs (five earned) off seven hits in 2.2 innings of work. James Anderson gets the win for SUU. Anderson pitched seven innings and gave up eight hits while striking out six.
