The Utes' success this season has ventured further then the field, as two Utes have been recognized for their academic excellence. Seniors Maren Harper and Courtney Hills-McBeth have been named the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VIII Women's University Soccer Team.
Currently, Harper is sporting a 4.00 GPA, while pursuing a degree in political science. Hills-McBeth is working on her master's degree in education leadership. The goalkeeper finished her undergraduate degree with a 3.84 GPA in political science.
Utah was the only team within the Mountain West Conference to have players earn this recognition.
As a first-team selections, both Harper and Hills-McBeth advance to the national ballot, the results of which will be announced on Nov. 26.
District VII is composed of Division I schools in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington, as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.
