THIS WEEK:
Utah (11-2-3, 4-1-1 MWC) will travel to Provo, Utah, to take on Wyoming (4-11-1, 0-5-0 MWC) in the first round in the Mountain West Conference tournament this Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 2:00 p.m. on South Field. The Utes are seeded second after the loss to BYU on Nov. 2, while the Cowgirls are seeded seventh.
If Utah advances past the first round, it will take on the winner of the New Mexico (No. 3 seed) vs. Air Force (No. 6 seed) match. This semifinal game will be held Thursday, Nov. 7, at 4:30 p.m. on South Field in Provo, Utah. The championship game will be played Saturday, Nov. 9 at noon.
SHAUNA GURR-BINGHAM IN THE RECORD BOOKS:
Senior forward Shauna Gurr-Bingham is currently one assist away from breaking the all-time career assist record. She is currently tied for first-place in school history with former Ute Staci Burt with 21 career-assists.
UTES IN THE POLLS:
As of last week, Utah moved back into the rankings at No. 24 in the SoccerBuzz.com and Soccer America polls. The Utes are also No. 9 in the NSCAA Western regional poll.
NCAA STATISTICAL RANKINGS:
The Utes are ranked No. 16 in goals-against average (0.62) and placed 14th in winning percentage (0.833) in the most recent NCAA statistics. Ute goalkeepers junior Lynnsey Asay-Kimball and senior Courtney Hills-McBeth also received NCAA rankings. Asay-Kimball (0.49) is No. 6 and Hills-McBeth (0.75) is positioned at No. 25 in goals-against average.
MWC STATS AND STATISTICS:
In this week's MWC statistics, Utah remained in first-place in goals-against average (0.70) and goals-allowed average (0.75). The Utes are also ranked second in shutouts with an average of 0.44. Junior Missy Dennis placed second in game-winning goals, averaging 0.19. Junior goalkeeper Lynnsey Asay-Kimball has notched a first-place ranking in goals-against average (0.49) and shutouts per game (0.50).
SCOUTING WYOMING:
In last week's bout with New Mexico, Wyoming lost on a penalty kick, which was the only score of the game. The Lobos defeated the Cowgirls in a defensive showdown 1-0 Sunday at UW Soccer Stadium. The game marked the fifth straight loss for the Cowgirls and their fourth straight game decided by one goal.
LAST WEEK:
Utah battled for solo possession of the MWC regular season championship. The Utes unfortunately fell to instate rival BYU, 2-1. The Cougars were able to withstand a late second half surge by the Utes to take home not only the victory, but also the No. 1 seeding in the MWC tournament.
NEXT WEEK:
The Utes are hopeful for a first-ever NCAA bid. The NCAA First and Second Rounds begin Nov. 15-17. Game times are TBA.
