SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.-The Utes fell to Cal Poly on Saturday, 3-8, evening the series at one game a piece. The series concludes on Sunday, Jan. 27 at Baggett Stadium at 11:00 a.m. (PT). Utah is now 1-1 and Cal Poly 4-1-1 on the season. On Friday night, the Utes defeated the Mustangs in game one, 6-4.
The game was full of offense as Cal Poly banged out 14 hits, including six for extra bases. Seven players posted at least one RBI for the Mustangs. Utah managed its own offensive attack with 10 hits on the night.
Designated hitter Jed Chrisman knocked in two runs off a homerun and a sacrifice fly, and scored one run for the Utes. Freshman Brett Baldwin continued his great play, posting three hits and scoring one run.
Tyler Fitch (1-0) earned the win for the Mustangs after allowing three earned runs in 5.2 innings. Freshman Doug Mackay (0-1) picked up his first loss, allowing four earned runs in 3.0 innings of work.
