LAS VEGAS, Nev.--Tommy Maestas went 3-for-4 from the plate driving in four runs and scoring two as Utah beat UNLV 15-6 to avoid being swept in the three-game series. Utah dropped the first game of the three-game series 12-11 after blowing a 10-2 lead and dropped the second game 11-10.
Adam Castleton hit his third home run of the year and drove in three runs. Mike Basham drove in three runs and Chris Shelton drove in two. Shelton leads the team with 53 RBI for the 2001 season.
Ryan Bailey (7-3) picked up the win for Utah after allowing four earned runs in seven innings of work. Courtney Hall gets the loss for UNLV after giving up five earned runs, eight hits and one walk in 6.2 innings of work, dropping him to 7-6.
Utah moves to 22-23, 11-13 MWC and UNLV drops to 20-26, 11-13 MWC. The Utes play a double header against Albertsons College on Tuesday, May 1 at Franklin Covey Field.
