GAME ONE (Win)
SALT LAKE CITY--Nate Weese drove in one run and Sam Swenson hit a grand slam over the centerfield wall as the Utes jumped out to a 5-0 lead over Albertson College in the first inning. Utah added another run in the second inning after Donny Saba scored on an error by the second baseman. The Coyote's posted it's only run of the game in the fourth inning as Utah went on to win 13-1 and improve to 23-23 on the season. Albertson College falls to 26-16.
Nate Weese, along with Swenson, drove in four runs for the Utes. Weese went 3-for-4 from the plate, including a homerun, and scored three runs in the game. Adam Castleton went 2-for-3 from the plate and scored three runs, while Saba, Chris Shelton and Tommy Maestas each scored two runs for the Utes. After today's homers, Weese and Swenson have 12 a piece on the year.
David Ebright picks up the win for the Utes after allowing one run, five hits, two walks and three strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work. Ebright improves to 3-1. Michael Kraemer gets the loss for the Coyotes after allowing 11 runs (8 earned), ten hits and three walks in 6 innings of work. Kraemer falls to 5-3 on the year.
GAME TWO (Loss)
SALT LAKE CITY--Utah dropped the second game of it's double header against Albertson College 12-7, on May 4. The game, at Franklin Covey Field, consisted of only seven innings of play because the Stingers were scheduled to play.
The Coyote's scored three runs in the first inning with two doubles and two singles. It led 3-0 until the second inning when the Utes posted two runs to cut the lead to 3-2. The Coyote's added three more runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth to lead 8-4.
In the sixth inning, Donald Hawes doubled, moved to third on a single by Rob Stuart and scored on a fielders choice. Mike Basham reached on an error by the short stop and he and Stuart scored on a double by Nate Weese. Utah chipped away at the lead now trailing 10-7, but it wasn't enough as Albertson College added two more runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win.
Utah falls to 23-24 on the year and Albertson College improves to 37-16. For Utah, Cheyenne Rushton picks up the loss dropping him to 0-2 on the season. Rushton allowed three runs and five hits in two innings of work. Utah used five pitchers in the loss. Chris Renneker earns the win for the Coyotes. He improves to 10-1 on the year.
The Utes battle San Diego State on Thursday, May 3 at 12:00 p.m.. The two teams finish off the MWC battle Friday, May 4 at 12:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 5 at 12:00 p.m. All games will be played at Franklin Covey Field.
