Utah's women's soccer team concludes the regular season with a two-game road trip. The Utes will be in Laramie, Wyo. Thurs., Oct. 19 at 3 p.m. to face Wyoming, then head to Colorado Springs, Colo. Sun., Oct. 22 to play Air Force at 1 p.m.
PREVIEW: If Utah sweeps opponents this weekend, and New Mexico loses to either UNLV or San Diego State, they will receive the second seed in the conference tournament. Wyoming is 7-6-1 (0-3 MWC). Air Force's record is 3-11-1 (1-2 MWC)
LAST WEEK IN REVIEW: Utah snapped a three-game losing streak and rolled off two straight conference wins. Utah went on a three-goal scoring binge within a 3 ? minute span to deflate UNLV. Sophomore Katie Tate started the barrage with a header off a left to right cross from junior Alli Cerruti 14:06 into the contest. Freshman Amber Brower struck 1:10 later when she put back consecutive shot attempts by sophomore Jen Williams and Tate. Tate recorded her second goal of the game in the 17th minute when she was fed a pass by junior Amy Kofoed and sophomore Shauna Gurr, to cap the scoring outburst. Brower tacked on another goal in the 59th minute, with the game already out of reach with Utah's ball control throughout the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Hills combined on the shutout with freshman Lynnsey Asay . San Diego State Goalkeeper Courtney Hills posted six saves to earn her second consecutive shutout, and the Ute offense stayed aggressive throughout the game, finally breaking through in the second half. Junior Amy Kofoed scored the eventual decisive goal in the 58th minute. Kofoed put Utah on top 1-0 when she dribbled past SDSU defenders and blistered a ball into the bottom left corner. That goal proved to be enough with Hills' in goal and the aggressive Utah offense keeping the ball out of the Aztecs possession. Sophomore Shauna Gurr tacked on some insurance in the 88th minute when she collected a Katie Tate shot and punched it in. Tate opened up the net with two quick attempts-on-goal that Aztec goalie Linnea Quinones denied, but couldn't halt the entire barrage.
COMING UP: Utah goes to Las Vegas for the MWC Tournament Nov. 1-4. Game times will be available Sunday night at the conclusion of all regular season games.
