TEMPE, Ariz. - The Utah baseball team is 0-1 on the season falling 13-2 to No. 23 ranked Arizona State in its opening game. The Utes had two runs on eight hits and two errors, while ASU had 13 runs on 16 hits and one error.
Newcomer David Ebright opened on the mound for Utah pitching four innings. The junior led the pitching staff with three strikeouts.
Junior centerfielder Sam Swenson and sophomore catcher Donald Hawes led the Utes at the plate, each with two hits. Swenson slammed Utah's only double of the game and Hawes tallied both RBIs and a stolen base. Third baseman Mike Goff led the game with two stolen bases.
The Utes and the Sundevils continue the three-game series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
