Ute Travel The Utah women's soccer team travels to Indianapolis, Ind., to play Butler Fri., Sept. 10 at 8:00 p.m. The Utes then play Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., Sun., Sept. 12 at 12:00 p.m.
Butler is 0-2 so far this season with losses to Purdue (3-0) and Illinois State (4-3). Last year, the Bulldogs were 10-13 and tied for second in the Midwestern Collegiate Conference with a 3-2 league record.
Michigan is 2-1 with wins over No. 19 ranked Vanderbilt (3-0) and Oakland (4-1) and a loss to Missouri (1-4). The Wolverines were 14-7-1 in 1998, with a 5-3-1 record in the Big Ten Conference.
The Utes depart from Salt Lake City on Sept. 9 at 12:55 p.m. (Delta #922) and return home on Sept. 12 at 8:38 p.m. (Delta #1153).
Utes to Watch Senior Staci Burt has reclaimed her position as Ute scoring leader for a third straight year. The forward leads the team with five points. She scored two goals in Utah's opener against Idaho State and assisted freshman Shauna Gurr's goal against Texas A&M.
Sophomore Amy Kofoed follows close behind Burt with four points. The midfielder slammed the game-winning goal against ISU and scored the first goal in Utah's 2-1 overtime victory against Kansas. She leads the team with shots on goal with eight.
Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Hills is 2-1. She has played three complete games including one overtime game for 283:51 total minutes. Hills has 19 saves and has allowed five goals for a 1.59 goals-against average.
Defender Dana Bolton and defensive center midfielders Katie Tate and Sandi Fouts have played an influential part in Utah's 2-1 season record. Both Bolton and Fouts have one assist. The Ute defense has kept the opposing offense to 10 shots in the first period.
Ute Note So far this season, the Utes have kept with their season goal to maintain a solid defense that promotes a strong offense. In three games, Utah has out shot its opponents 54-39 for an average of 18 shots per game.
Recent Results Utah defeated Kansas 2-1 in an intense overtime game. The Utes dominated the game out shooting the Jayhawks 27 to 12, including 14 shots on goal.
Sophomore midfielder Amy Kofoed and freshman Brittany Harlan both scored goals with an assist by senior Dana Bolton.
In a heated game resulting in 21 fouls and seven yellow cards, the Utes fell 2-1 to No. 15 ranked Texas A&M.
Utah dominated the game out shooting the Aggies 15-12. Freshman Shauna Gurr scored her first goal of the season on a pass from forward Staci Burt.
