MISSOULA, Mont. - Sophomore Amy Kofoed had another big weekend, leading Utah to wins over Montana and Washington State in the Grizzlies' Diadora Cup.
In their second two-game weekend of the young season, Utah improved to 5-2 with back-to-back wins on Friday and Saturday. The Utes posted their first shutout of the season with a 1-0 win over Montana on Friday afternoon. Brittany Harlan scored the only goal of the game and her second of the season just before halftime. Goalkeeper Courtney Hills recorded her first career shutout. The Utes outshot the Lady Griz 14-13.
Utah needed a little more offense to get past Washington State, 3-1, on Saturday. Senior Staci Burt and Kofoed scored the first two goals just five minutes apart in the first half, giving the Utes a 2-0 lead at halftime. At the 74-minute mark, Natalie Kehl scored for the Cougars. Utah then took the ensuing kickoff the length of the field in 19 seconds to get Kofoed her second goal of the game.
Cougar keeper Lindsey Jorgensen had not allowed a goal in the previous two games. However, the Utes applied plenty of pressure, outshooting WSU 17-7. Burt had a hand in all three Utah goals, scoring the first and getting the assist on the other two.
Utah plays the last of five straight road games on Friday at Colorado before returning home to host Washington on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Ute Field.
