SALT LAKE CITY - The Utes travel to Missoula, Mont., to play Montana and Washington State in the Montana Diadora Cup. Utah plays the Grizzlies on Fri., Sept. 17 at 5:00 p.m. The Utah-Washington State game is scheduled on Sat., Sept. 18 at 2:00 p.m. Montana and Washington State play the final game of the tournament, Sun., Sept. 19 at 1:00 p.m. All games will be played at UM South Campus Field.
Utes to Watch
Leading the Utah scoring brigade is midfielder Amy Kofoed. The sophomore has five goals for ten points, including two game-winning goals. Against Butler, Kofoed scored two unassisted goals. Her first came in the second half when she rushed a breakaway into the box. She came back to seal Utah's 3-2 victory in the second period of sudden death overtime when she slammed a 25-yard free kick past the Bulldog goalkeeper for the win.
Freshman goalkeeper Courtney Hills is 3-2. She has played 490:21 minutes, made 38 saves and allowed 10 goals for a goals against average of 1.84.
Recent Results
Utah defeated Butler in a double-overtime victory. The Utes battled through 111:04 minutes of play to outshoot the Bulldogs 15-9. All of Utah's goals were unassisted.
Against Michigan, the Utes found themselves in their third overtime game this season, only this time they fell in a 3-2 sudden death victory to the Wolverines.
The Utes are 3-2 on the season as they prepare for their upcoming matches against Montana and Washington State.
Scouting the Opponents
Montana is 2-2 this season with wins over Northwestern (2-0) and Butler (2-0). Last season, the Grizzlies were15-5-1 with a 6-1 record and a first-place rank in the Big Sky Conference. In series play, Utah leads 2-1.
Washington State is 3-1-0 boasting victories of Boise State (2-0), Louisville (3-0) and Wyoming (3-0). The Cougars were 6-10-3 in 1998 with a 4-4-1 record and a sixth-place finish in the Pac-10. This is the first match-up between Utah and Washington State.
Travel Plans
The Utes depart Salt Lake City Thurs., Sept. 16 at 2:45 p.m. on Delta flight #1267 and arrive in Missoula, Mont., at 4:06 p.m. While in Missoula, the team will be staying at the Doubletree Hotel (406-728-3100). The Utes return Sat., Sept. 18. They depart Missoula at 8:05 p.m. on Delta flight #5654 and arrive in Salt Lake City at 9:20 p.m.
