SALT LAKE CITY -- Cory Solomon, who has been with the University of Utah women's volleyball program for the past two years, has recently been promoted to first assistant coach.
Solomon was a volunteer assistant coach with the Utes during the 1996 and `97 seasons, and was briefly promoted to second assistant coach following last season. He was promoted to first assistant coach after the departure of Jil Thomason, who accepted an assistant coaching position at the University of Denver.
A veteran coach at the high school and club levels, Solomon was an assistant coach for four years at Taylorsville High School (1992-95) and was the head coach of the Twin Peaks Junior Olympic Boys' Club for 11 years. His boys' club team finished in the top 10 three times at the Southern California regional tournament and placed seventh at the U.S. Junior Olympic tournament in 1997. He was also a physics teacher at Taylorsville High School.
"Cory is a great teacher of the game of volleyball," said Ute head coach Beth Launiere. "I feel very fortunate to get someone with Cory's experience and knowledge of the game."
Solomon graduated Cum Laude from the University of Utah in 1988 with a bachelor of science degree. The 35-year-old Solomon resides with his wife, Vickie, in Salt Lake City.
