Abbie Fredrick enters her first season with the Utah cross country and track & field team as an assistant coach in July of 2026.
Fredrick comes to the Wasatch Front with familiarity having coached in the Big 12 Conference at her last two stops with Oklahoma State (2024-26) and Baylor (2022-24).
Her first season in Stillwater saw the Cowgirls capture the 2024 NCAA Midwest Regional in cross country by a margin of 15 points and saw four athletes garner all-regional honors. She also helped guide freshman Isca Chelangat earn runner-up honors in the 5000m race at the 2025 Big 12 Outdoor Championships and Second-Team All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships that same season.
Fredrick’s second year at Oklahoma State saw Chelangat seize the NCAA Midwest Regional crown while the women’s program won the team title once again. OSU had four all-regional honorees once again – all of which finished in the top-12. Chelangat would earn All-America honors at the NCAA Cross Country Championships after finishing seventh-overall while the Cowgirls finished 12th as a team.
The indoor season saw Billah Jepkirui have a breakout season, garnering First-Team All-America honors in the mile and 3000m races and was tabbed the USTFCCCA Midwest Region women’s track athlete of the year. She was also named the Big 12 Indoor Performer of the Year after capturing Big 12 titles in the 1000m and mile. For her efforts, she was named to the Bowerman Watch List. The indoor season also saw OSU’s DMR squad run the second-fastest time in collegiate history before going on to finish eighth at the NCAA Indoor Championships. In addition, Billah (mile), Chelangat (5000m) and Kaylie Politza (1000m) set new school records in their respective events.
Billah continued her stellar season running the fifth fastest 1500m time (4:04.59) in the NCAA – which was also the fastest mark in 2026. Her school record-breaking run also earned her USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors. Meanwhile, Chelangat and Politza would go on to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 5000m and 800m run, respectively. Oklahoma State’s 800m team also finished the year No. 4 in the national event rankings.
While at Baylor, Fredrick coached three NCAA South Central All-Region performers as well as multiple all-academic honorees. In her first season with the Bears, Annamaria Kostarellis placed ninth in the 10000m race at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships and helped her set school records in both the 5k and 10k.
Prior to making the move to Division I, the Cheyenne, Wyo., native got her start at Dawson Community College (2020-21) in Glendive, Mont., where she coached the program’s first cross country All-American. In addition, Fredrick served as the team’s strength and conditioning coordinator. She then returned to her alma mater, Black Hills State, for a season (2021-22) where she doubled the recruiting class in her lone year there before making the move to Waco.
An accomplished athlete herself before joining the coaching ranks, Fredrick garnered All-America (mile) and all-academic accolades at Black Hills State. She also tallied Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference weekly honors after running the 14th-fastest time in Division II with a run of 4:53.25 (aa) in the mile.
Fredrick graduated from BHSU with a degree in exercise science in 2020.
