Solomon notches another shutout, Utah stays unbeaten
This improves Utah's record to 2-0-1, the third time in the last five seasons the Utes have been undefeated through three fixtures.
"We had a unique challenge to deal with today," said coach Hideki Nakada, "but I'm really proud of our team for how we handled the three hour delay and came out ready to play. We started the game a little slow and lethargic, but after making some tactical adjustments, the players who came on provided great rhythm and tempo. That allowed us to play with more purpose, which led to us creating quality chances and ultimately scoring goals."
Solomon joins Lindsey Luke as one of only two Utah keepers to blank the team's first three opponents in a season, a feat Luke accomplished in 2013. Two different Utah keepers combined to shut out the program's first three opponents in 2005.
Utah controlled the pace of play for most of the first half, registering eight shots in the first 35 minutes compared to just one for SUU. Solomon easily denied the Thunderbirds' only scoring chance in the 27th minute with a save on a Grace Blieschke shot off an SUU set piece. The pressure the Utes put on paid off in the 30th minute, when, from beyond midfield, Brooke Gardner sent a ball towards the SUU net that bounced over keeper Tatum Trout and rolled in for Gardner's first collegiate goal and a 1-0 lead.

That lead was still standing when inclement weather forced both sides to wait out a delay that lasted nearly three hours, but when play resumed, the Utes went right back to work. A Utah attack on the right side of the field set up Tatym Dever for a cross into the box. Her pass landed on the head of Maddie Stoddard, who centered it perfectly for tap-in by Katie Callaway and a 2-0 advantage that Utah took into halftime.

In the second, the Utes got back to scoring almost immediately. A Peregrina ball into the box was fought for until it trickled free and Julia Oka pounced on it and sent it over the line for her first score of the season. Shannon Davidson logged her second assist of the year.

Strong defense and stellar play by Solomon made sure Utah's lead was never threatened. The Thunderbirds managed only two total shots in the final period, with Solomon making one save. In the 84th minute, more lightning was detected in the area, leading both staffs to agree to end the game.
Utah outshot their guests 15-4 and owned an 8-2 edge in on-target tries. The Utes have managed more shots on goal than all three of their 2026 opponents and hold an overall edge of 22-8 in that statistic.
"It's unfortunate we weren't able to play the full 90 minutes," said Nakada, "but once again, I'm really proud of how we responded and finished the game. We will enjoy this result and get ready for our biggest challenge yet against Utah State starting tomorrow."
Next UpAnother home tilt is up next for the Utes, who will host the Utah State Aggies on Thursday at 7 p.m.
