NEW ORLEANS –
Mackenzie Rogers of Utah track & field was named Second-Team All-America by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) while teammate
Chelsea Amoah earned honorable mention.
Â
Both competed in their first individual events at the NCAA Championships this past weekend with Rogers becoming just the second Ute to compete in the 3000m steeplechase event, joining two-time All-American Grayson Murphy (2017-18).
Â
The Poway, Calif., native finished 15th-overall to garner second-team honors behind a school record-breaking time of 9:48.34 – which was nearly 20 seconds better than her previous PR. Rogers became the sixth Utah individual to earn at least second-team honors since 2021 and the eighth time Utah has had a first or second-team honoree since then.
Â
Meanwhile, Amoah became the first Ute to race in the 200m event at NCAA Championships. The West Jordan native clocked in at 23.26 in the semifinals of the 200m dash – finishing 21st-overall to collect honorable mention distinction. Her participation marks the second-consecutive year Utah has had a homegrown athlete compete at the championships – joining
Morgan Jensen (Sandy, Utah) last season.
